Statement of Commitment
OMS Montessori is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Accessible Emergency Information
OMS Montessori is committed to providing clients with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way upon request, We will also provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when necessary.
Information and Communication
OMS Montessori is committed to meeting the communications needs of people with disabilities. We will consult with people with disabilities to determine their information and communication needs.
Personal Assistive Devices
Clients with disabilities may use their personal assistive devices on OMS Montessori’s premises and use any other measure OMS offers to help access OMS’ goods and services.
Clients with disabilities may be accompanied by their service animal in those areas of OMS Montessori’s premises that are open to the public, unless the animal is excluded by another law. If the service animal is excluded by another law, OMS will have an alternative method to provide goods and services.
Clients with disabilities may be accompanied by a support person in all premises which are open to the public. A support person can be a personal support worker, a volunteer, a family member or a friend. A support person might help the client with a variety of things from communicating to helping with mobility, personal care or medical needs.
Notice of Disruption to Services
Disruption of services for clients with disabilities may occur due to reasons beyond OMS Montessori’s control. If this is to occur, OMS will use the proper channels to ensure our clients with disabilities are notified in a timely manner; whether by posting a notice at a conspicuous place on OMS premises, on our website or by another reasonable method. The notice will include the reason, the expected duration and any alternative method available to access OMS Montessori’s goods and services.

OMS Montessori will provide training to all full time staff employees, and to part time employees and volunteers on Ontario’s accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Individuals in the following positions will be trained: administrative staff, teaching staff, assistants and custodial staff.
Training will be provided in a way that best suits the duties of employees and volunteers.
OMS Montessori will take the following steps to ensure employees are provided with the training needed to meet Ontario’s accessible laws by January 1, 2015:
- An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the requirements of the client service standard.
- OMS Montessori’s accessible client service plan.
- How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities.
- How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person.
- How to use any assistive equipment OMS Montessori may have or come to have. What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing OMS Montessori’s goods and services.
Staff will also be trained when changes are made to our accessible client service plan.

Design of Public Spaces
OMS Montessori will meet the Accessibility Standards for the design of public spaces when building or making modifications to its public spaces.
Modifications to this or other policies
Any policy of OMS Montessori that does not respect and promote the dignity and independence of people with disabilities will be modified or removed.
