Due to the developmental and sequential nature of the Montessori program, children are ideally admitted to OMS Montessori between the ages of 18 months and 4 years. However, it may be possible to enrol an older child into the age-appropriate program. All programs maintain a waiting list for the upcoming year.
To enroll in our Francophone Program, a student must speak and understand French as a Francophone and have a parent who regularly speaks French to them. We have a short screening to ensure this is the case. Students who are not French speaking are welcomed in our English language programs where they will receive an enhanced core French as a Second Language program and benefit from interacting with Francophones of the school
OMS is responsive to each student as an individual and our community is made up of students from many different cultures, and with differing physical, intellectual and social characteristics. We can often accommodate students who have completed other Montessori programs or, occasionally, non-Montessori students who, by their nature, would be comfortable in a Montessori program.
The first step in the Admissions process is to attend a school tour to learn about Montessori education in general and OMS Montessori in particular. Tours are hosted with only one family only, and we recommend for your first visit, to try to arrange child care for your son or daughter. This will provide you with an opportunity to answer any questions you may have, and determine if OMS Montessori is the best fit for your family before your child builds a rapport with our community. Information packages and application forms are distributed during your tour. If you are able to attend a tour in the morning, you will have the opportunity to tour the school and observe a number of active classes. If you attend an evening tour, we ask that you make arrangements to visit OMS and observe the students in their classes before completing an application.
As applications are received, they are placed in a wait list. OMS Montessori does not require a deposit to submit an application for Toddler or Casa-aged students, as per section 75.1 of Ontario Regulation 137/15. Generally, our programs are full and, therefore, students are most often admitted in September of each year. Once re-enrolment figures for returning students are known families in the wait list are offered admission contracts when spaces are available. There are times when spaces are available after September. Please contact us if you are interested in the current status of our programs. OMS Montessori does have a rolling enrollment process, so we do encourage prospective families to schedule a tour at any time throughout the year.
